While others may say they have an innovative solution for your health needs, Nature’s Sunshine has actually put our program to the test! The Hughes Center for Research and Innovation conducted an independently-reviewed clinical study with two groups of generally healthy people who followed diet and exercise recommendations for 90 days. One group received the added benefit of the IN.FORM product protocol and their RESULTS WERE GROUNBREAKING.

At the end of 90 days, the group who received IN.FORM products experienced marked improvement in the following areas:

  • 12% reduction in body weight
  • 21.5% reduction of fat mass
  • 51% reduction in triglycerides
  • 15/10 mmHg reduction in blood pressure (11% reduction in systolic and 12% diastolic)
  • 18% reduction in total cholesterol
  • 19% reduction in LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol
What does that mean for the rest of us?

IN.FORM has been clinically studied to help fight the top 3 health concerns in America…heart disease, obesity and diabetes!

The link between our diets and today’s greatest health risks is very real. By changing the way we live, we can literally reverse the damage we’ve done. Functional Medicine Practitioner Dr. Joseph Lamb Answers top Questions about our New IN.FORM Metabolic Age Support System and the revolutionary results it produces.

Q. The Metabolic Age Support System was developed as a result of a groundbreaking clinical study conducted at the Hughes Center for Research. What was your involvement?
A. I’m the Medical Director for the Hughes Center and my role in this study was to develop the overall protocol. I made sure that it was administered according to regulations instituted by our Independent Review Board and industry standards of excellence for clinical research. In partnership with Dr. Matthew Tripp, Chief Scientific Officer at NSP, our team of two MDs and six research scientists conducted the 13-week study. I saw our study participants during each clinical visit and participated in weekly meetings to offer advice and gather data and feedback on their progress.

Q. Were you surprised by the results?
A. Dr. Tripp, Dr. John Babish, our Scientific Director of Basic Research and Intellectual Property, Clinton Dahlberg, Director of Research and Development Programs, and I share many years of experience in the nutritional supplement industry. Coupled with the preliminary research that has been ongoing at HCRI, our experience provided us a good inclination about what the study would reveal. That said, the actual results were significantly better that we’d anticipated. The benefits of our IN.FORM Products coupled with a healthy lifestyle far exceeded what we’d expected.

Q. In simple terms, would you explain what each of the IN.FORM products does and how it benefits the body? INForm_ProteinBags_MU_021216_01
A. IN.FORM Metabolic Age Support Shake

There are multiple reasons why a Protein Shake is beneficial. The food plan we recommend for the program is low-glycemic, high in protein and phytonutrient rich. People making lifestyle changes like this may struggle with adapting to new habits, and shakes make it easier. They provide a great, convenient source of quality protein and phytosterols.

Protein supplementation during a calorie-restricted diet helps to preserve muscle when the body shifts to fat-burning mode. Phytosterols (a natural plant product) can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.  Shakes also provide a great foundation of standard vitamins and minerals to fill in any nutritional gaps in our diets.

IN.FORM Cardio Kit

The components of the Cardio Kit work synergistically to support healthy cardiovascular function. Its antioxidants help reduce the oxidative burden of a poor diet and Bergamot has been shown to restore balance in terms of cholesterol profile. It can help reduce the amount of small, dense low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) particles that tend to be more troublesome for our blood vessels. These smaller particles are prone to going rancid or becoming oxidized. They sneak into vessel walls, trigger inflammation and then impede the vessel’s ability to work exactly as it should. When blood vessels become less and less responsive, we can start to see the formation of plaque inside the vessels, high blood pressure, and a host of other cardiometabolic issues.

When sugar gets delivered to our cells, to a certain degree they’re happy. But when there’s too much the cells don’t handle it very well. (Imagine a pizza delivery person showing up with a pizza you didn’t order hour after hour for days. As first, it’s great. Free pizza! But after awhile, the novelty wears off so we stop answering the door.) The same is true with sugar and our muscle and liver cells. They’ll only take in so much. Fat cells, on the other hand, will keep accepting the sugar (or pizza) until they explode. White blood cells then have to clean up the mess which irritates them and leads to inflammation. When we’re inflamed we become even more insulin resistant, and so the process drives forward.

IN.FORM Berberine

Berberine is a natural compound with specific properties noted to benefit the regulation of blood sugar. Many participants in our study suffered from issues associated with Insulin Resistance, which means basically that the body isn’t very sensitive to the insulin it makes.

Berberine has been shown to address this issue by helping muscle and liver cells become less resistant to taking in sugars and triglycerides.  This means the body can then burn them for energy instead of storing them in fat cells.

IN.FORM Probiotic

Our bodies are made up of over 70 trillion cells, but only 10% of them are human. The rest are bacteria, viruses, parasites, worms and microscopic mites. In fact, there are actually more bacteria in our gut than stars in the universe! Good bacteria are helpful for things like digesting fiber and cross talking with the body to ensure systems are functioning properly. But the gut microbiome (the bacteria that live in our colons) can become unbalanced. For example, some bacteria do their job too well, and can actually make carbohydrates more available for us to use and absorb. This means we can actually get more calories from our food! Other bacteria are bad neighbors and can cause inflammation and immune dysfunction. IN.FORM Probiotic helps to restore the balance between good and bad bacteria in the gut, promoting regular bowel movements and all the benefits of healthy digestion.

Q: The study revealed dramatic results in terms of reversing metabolic age. Why should I be concerned about my metabolic age and ideally, what should it be?
A:Determining your “metabolic age” takes multiple factors into consideration. It’s derived from looking at things like weight, body fat and functional parameters. Basically it’s assessing whether your physiology is as it should be. Are you as “fit” as a healthy person your age should be and do you have the same amount of energy they do? Ideally our metabolic age would be the same as our chronological age, but for the majority of people it’s much higher. Some of the people in our study were off the chart. Lowering our metabolic age means we’re now less likely to develop the morbidities associated with aging. We’re protecting ourselves from having to live a more challenged life than we would otherwise

Q:Why is the program 90 days long?
A: We settled on a 90-day, or 13 week, protocol for a number of reasons. First, it takes into account the reality that people need to learn a new program and adapt to making changes over time. It’s also factored on the reality that some people have a lot of weight to lose and damage to overcome. The FDA defines “meaningful weight loss” at 5% of a person’s total weight, maintained over one year. Our goal was to have everyone experience a meaningful change, and in 90 days we were able to do that. Most everyone on the study lost at least 5% of their body weight and we know it will be an appreciable benefit for them long-term.

Q: Should I follow a specific food plan or exercise regimen while I’m on the system?
A: To achieve maximum benefits, yes. Our study participants followed a strict low-glycemic, high-protein and phytonutrient-rich food plan. They ate lots of quality proteins, vegetables and quality fats while restricting grains, sugars, starchy vegetables, artificial sweeteners and limiting fruits, legumes and dairy. We encouraged participants to use a pedometer and start with a goal of 5,000 steps per day. Their progress throughout the study was remarkable. People, who couldn’t walk a block the day when they started, were hiking strenuous trails by the end of week 13! If you have established health concerns, please work with your coach or physician to create a diet and exercise regimen that will be optimal for you.

Q: Once I’m done with the full 90-day program, what’s next? How can I maintain the success I experienced?
A: At the end of 3 months, take a look at your progress and assess if you’re on target. If you haven’t lost 12-15% of your total weight or met your specific goals, continue with the program. But keep in mind that after a 12-15% weight loss the body’s regulatory mechanisms can kick in, which often slows further weight loss. If you find you’re at a plateau, try switching to a less restrictive plan for a few months. (This doesn’t means that you won’t still be working to lose weight. Many overweight individuals continue to lose while on a maintenance program.)  For those who after the few months of maintenance still aren’t at goal, they can resume the basic more intensive program.

If you did accomplish what you hoped for, move to a maintenance plan. Make sure you are giving your body the basic nutrition it needs. Many people find it helpful to keep using a Metabolic Age Support Shake for convenience, and if you have cardiometabolic risk factors, discuss continuing the Cardio Kit or Berberine IR with your coach.

I also think it’s wise to continue eating a good, clean diet and to focus on creating healthy habits on a regular basis. You can re-visit the program annually to give the body the ongoing support it needs. And use it as a jump start after a long vacation or during the holidays; whenever you’ve fallen off your goals.
